n the early 1700s, Etobicoke  was home to numerous different First Nation tribes. By the late 1700s,  European pioneers began settling the area and by the early 1800s, the area became the Township of Etobicoke.

Over the years, as Etobicoke grew, it melded into many of the surrounding communities such as  the village of Long Branch, the Town of New Toronto and the Town of Mimico, and became the Borough of Etobicoke. In 1984, the  Borough of Etobicoke was reincorporated as a city and in 1998, it and five other local municipalities, were merged with the City of Toronto. Today, Etobicoke is an area of Toronto located on its western side.

Etobicoke is bordered by Lake Ontario on the south, the Humber River on the east, the Etobicoke Creek and the city of Mississauga on the west. The Toronto Peasrson International Airport is also located on the west edge of Etobicoke. Etobicoke is generally divided into three areas.

Rexdale, Lakeshore and central Etobicoke.   Etobicoke is home to to about 13% of Toronto’s population and has about 350,000 residents. Compared to the other former boroughs and cities that now make up Toronto, Etobicoke has the smallest population density. The lower population density of Etobicoke is primarily due to the large amount of industrial land that is there.

As Etobicoke is part of Toronto, Etobicoke homes for sale are generally more expensive than Brampton homes for sale are. Condos are more popular in Etobicoke than detached house are due to their lower price and lower interest rates. Out of every ten properties sold in Etobicoke four are condos.

However, the average cost of a home in Etobicoke is around $500,000. The average cost of a  single family detached home in Etobicoke is around $700,000 – $800,000, while the average price of an apartment condo is around  $300,000 – $400,000. Lakeside homes are generally more e expensive than home situated away from the lake.  The least expensive homes in Etobicoke are generally found in the Rexdale area. Etobicoke also offers numerous parks and greenways , golf courses, cafes and restaurants, and many boutiques. In addition, Etobicoke is also home to the Woodbine Race Tracks and Slots, Woodbine Centre and the Sherway Gardens Shopping Center.
